The Task:

In an area of Geelong experiencing rapid growth, the client was seeking to develop a narrow site currently used for car parking, with a new residential apartment and hotel development. Many aspects of the design had to be considered, including heritage elements within the immediate surrounding waterfront area, passive surveillance for safety of the public realm, and creating active interfaces at ground level to encourage movement and interaction in the area.

The Outcome:

Through planning approvals process including a design review with the Office of the Victorian Government Architects, the plans for an apartment and hotel development were prepared by Powerhouse Projects. A retail space and outdoor seating and landscaping was also provided at the ground level, to create a space for people to relax and interact.
